I Lost Mum, Dad and Sister to HIV in Blood Scandal
It all started with a routine blood transfusion for my sister who had been in a car accident. Little did we know that the blood she received was contaminated with HIV.
Soon after, my sister started showing symptoms of the virus and after getting tested, it was confirmed that she was HIV positive. We were devastated.
Not long after, my parents and I decided to get tested as well. The results were heartbreaking – my mother, father, and I had also contracted HIV from the contaminated blood.
Our lives were turned upside down as we struggled to come to terms with the reality of living with a life-long illness. The stigma and discrimination we faced made dealing with the illness even more difficult.
We fought hard to stay positive and support each other through the tough times. Sadly, one by one, we lost our battles with HIV. My sister was the first to pass away, followed by my mother and then my father.
Now, I am the only one left to tell our story and raise awareness about the devastating consequences of the blood scandal that took my entire family away from me.
Through our tragedy, I hope to shed light on the importance of blood safety regulations and the need for stricter controls to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
While I may have lost my mum, dad, and sister to HIV, their memory lives on in me as I continue to fight for justice and accountability for those affected by the blood scandal.
